PWM Synchronous Buck Converter

This is a complete simulation based project. Here a Pulse Width Modulation based synchronous DC-DC buck converter was simulated using 0.18um CMOS PTM model.The simulation tool used was LTSpice from Linear Technology.

 

Features

  • Input range 1.8\(\pm\)10%
  • Programmable output voltage (1.2V, 0.8V, 1.5V)
  • Voltage mode control (due to simplicity and versatile nature)
  • 8MHz operation (for low value of inductor and capacitor)
  • Peak current detection and protection (value of peak current can be set using an off-chip resistor).
  • 93% efficiency @100mA load, 9.3% efficiency @1mA (PFM mode was not added)
  • Output voltage accuracy is within 0.1%.
  • Softstart for inrush current protection.
  • Internal 0.5V bandgap reference.
